Arm Yourself For New Window Treatment Ideas

When it comes to window treatment ideas, the first step is to establish an image of what you are trying to achieve with a new look. Since there is such a plethora of products available, and all of them are attractively presented in the sales brochures, a list of the features you truly want is a critical part of the process.

If, for example, energy efficiency is a major factor in your decision to upgrade window treatments, that goal must not be lost sight of. It is all too easy to find oneself so beguiled by an especially attractive look, that the need to cut down on the utility bill goes flying out the window. Keep all of your criteria in mind at all times, and check off products one-by-one as they either meet or fall short of your expectations.

It may well turn out that nothing fully matches your list of requirements.  In that case, you still have a list of the closest matches to choose among. Here are a few factors that can guide you in your search for new window treatment ideas.

  • As already mentioned, energy efficiency is a consideration. When two products are about equally suited to the task, picking the one that will help pay for itself is an easy call to make.
  • Consider the presentation aspect of new window treatments. A stunning view of inner city skyscrapers or snow-capped mountains suggests a treatment designed to showcase these assets, rather than call attention to the treatment itself. Conversely, an ordinary or even unattractive view can be disguised by more elaborate presentations that grab attention in their own right.

  • Material factors come into play when one is dealing with windows. All materials that are exposed to sunlight for long periods of time will fade and degrade. Give some thought to how gracefully your new accessories will weather in terms of color and durability. Likewise, ask yourself if you are primarily interested in letting sunlight in, or keeping it out. This will also have an effect on the materials and styles chosen.
  • Unity of presentation should be kept in mind. A little girl’s room done up in bright yellows and pinks will not look right if equipped with heavy blue velvet draperies covered in space aliens or race cars.  Danish modern furniture in the living room will not complement the same window coverings as does a room filled with Louis Quatorze pieces.
  • Fashionably fresh concepts need to be balanced against the likelihood of enduring timelessness. Make sure that you are not purchasing the modern equivalent of tie-dyed love beads. It is not always easy to determine whether something is a fad or a style. Fads can be quite entrancing while they are en vogue, but it is not a good idea to tie up large sums of money on window coverings that will be replaced in a year or two.
  • Ease of cleaning is an often overlooked idea when it comes to new window treatment ideas. Apart from the windows of a Halloween Haunted House, dust and cobwebs are never a plus. Think about how easy it is to keep new window coverings pristine.
  • Ease of installation is another factor to keep in mind. Some very beautiful presentations simply cannot be installed on the type of window openings in your house.

  • Finally, consider ergonomic and maintenance factors. Not only must these new purchases be easy to operate, but they must also be sturdy enough to withstand children, pets, and hard yanks on the cords. Be wary of ‘here today and gone tomorrow’ products. A matched set of window louvers can be rendered useless by the failure of a single member of the set. Make sure that replacements, or near-perfect matches from another company, are obtainable.

Like all other decorating ideas, redoing the windows is a balance between what you want and what will work.  Perfection is not always possible, but improvement most certainly is.

Window Blinds And Shade Offer Multiple Solutions

Window blinds and shutters are not only an attractive part of home decor, they are effective insulators. Window blinds offer an added benefit of being an efficient means to limit or direct incoming sunlight. These features offer a substantial degree of control over heating and cooling bills. In winter, closed blinds help maintain a pocket of insulating air, and the blinds can be opened when the sun is in a position to shine warming sunlight through the window. Honeycomb blinds have even greater insulating properties. The slats themselves are composed of many individually sealed cells, each holding a pocket of air, the most effective insulator of all.

Window blinds are available with slats of various types of wood, composites, metal, a wide variety of fabric textures and colors. Plastic slats are as varied as the limitless applications of plastic allow. The slats are offered in different sizes, the smaller slats are called mini blinds.

Venetian blinds, horizontally slatted, have traditionally been the most popular, but blinds are also available in a vertical configuration. Window blinds are manufactured for use on the outside of windows as well as the inside, and some are designed to provide security and protection against storms for residences and business.

Pleated blinds consist of a single sheet of fabric. As the pleated blinds are raised or lowered as a mechanism folds the pleats, “stacking” the fabric neatly onto itself, out of the way at the top of the window.

Blinds are available for all types of windows and doors, including automobiles, campers, mobile homes, busses and recreational vehicles. Doors are available with blinds built in between two panes of glass. This is not only a most efficient insulator, the chore of dusting the slats is a job you never have to perform because dust and dirt cannot get to the sealed off blinds.

Window blinds come in a broad range of styles and prices, and window shades cover an even wider spectrum. From the simple, “one size fits all,” shades manufactured with serrated vinyl to tear off for fitting, to luxurious fabrics, lush textures and rich colors suitable for the grandest of palace halls.

Modern fabrics incorporated into window shades permit varying degrees of the filtering of light. The properties of these fabrics can be used to lend an artistic element to interior spaces as some window shades “interpret” the light in perhaps, a silhouette rendering. Other fabrics diffuse the light and color to a palette casting an image of the outdoor setting in a manner evocative of an impressionistic painting.

Window blinds and shades are the window treatments that offer a single solution to multiple requirements. They have utilitarian properties as well as an availability of style and design suitable for any business or home décor. They offer environmental practicality, reliable security, and can function as a sturdy barricade against severe weather. The price range is wide enough to fit comfortably within any budget without compromising the quality level of the window treatment. Take time to explore all the possibilities.

Some Small Bathroom Ideas

Whether remodeling or starting from the ground up, there are many small bathroom decorating ideas to help designers create a unique style to fit with anyone’s personal taste. From the floors and walls to the fixtures and storage spaces, small bathrooms can have all the class, elegance and luxury of their larger counterparts. If one is not sure exactly how to go about preparing the facilities, he or she may look to familiar outlets and other sources to find ideas.

For instance, there are many Floor and Decor outlets with an array of floor options to get started in the practical areas. With so much from which to choose, there is no need to sacrifice style for function. Tile options include bamboo, ceramic, glass, granite, hardwood, marble, porcelain and travertine. Those who need tiles to accommodate hypoallergenic needs or simply want something that is easy to clean and durable also have many choices.

Bathroom Renovation Ideas

With a smaller bathroom, one should also consider many other factors. One of the most important is whether the room will accommodate a half, three-quarter or full bath. A half bath only includes a toilet and sink and is usually used only for guests while a three-quarter bathroom is fully functioning with a shower or tub as well as the sink and toilet. A full bath will have the shower and tub as well as all other amenities.

In either case, designers may find many ways to save space. For instance, using a pedestal sink rather than a sink with a full vanity cabinet is a great way to save space. Interestingly, reducing the size of or leaving out a window altogether can make it much easier to place showers or tubs. Placing all the amenities along one wall not only saves space but can also help save money.

Bathroom Paint Ideas

Many other tricks can give the illusion of more space. Using brighter colors can make a room appear larger than it is and even airier. The same happens with peaceful colors such as sage. Using wainscoted shelving behind the sink provides storage space without taking up too much room. One should also consider the door swing because this may take up as much as 25% of the room in a smaller bathroom.

Other creative ideas include using a tub sunken into the floor if this is feasible. Sinks that extend past its cabinet are not only unique but also provide a full-size sink even on a cabinet with reduced counter space. Another option is to consider an Asian-inspired design to create a fluidity of design for cramped quarters. Using amenities or furniture that does double duty can also save space and provide a storage area even if the cabinets are a bit shallow.

Other designing tricks such as using continuous horizontal lines and large frameless mirrors can also help create the illusion of more space. Lighting is also a very good way to make spaces seem larger than they truly are. A shower with a curbless entry can also have this effect. Floor to ceiling cabinets may be used to make the room look higher if this is the desired illusion one wants.

Having a wall hung sink may also create space as well as many of the other methods of working with a small bathroom. However, one must always be mindful of the foundations to accommodate any drywall, electrical, plumbing and tiling needs that must be fulfilled. Even if there is no room or budget for a full on remodeling job, a small bathroom can be made into a little piece of heaven with a few simple tricks. These are just some of the bathroom remodeling ideas for small bathrooms, check back soon for more great articles.

By simply changing the sheet colors and styles you can have a whole new look to your bed. Try to pick colors that you can mix and match with your existing bed coverings. If your comforter or [[[duvet cover]]] is a solid color, you can easily find linens with a print or stripe that have colors which will coordinate and complement the top bed coverings you already have.

Another way to perk up your boudoir is to choose some light but cheery neutral colors for the [[[accent pillows]]] and bed coverings.   You can use a variety of different styles of accent pillows to give your new bed covering some visual interest and warmth.  Try using different shapes of pillows as well as prints and patterns to keep your new look fresh.  If you get bored with the accent pillows at any time, you can always swap them out with new ones to give your bedding a new look for a little money.

If new linens and new accent pillows don’t work for you, then try swapping out the curtains.  [[[Ready made curtains]]] are an abundant item that you can find easily at any home decorating store.  You can change your curtains as often as the seasons change.  With the new styles and fabrics of today’s ready made curtains, you will be able to give your bedroom a face-lift with little effort and in no time at all.  Ready made curtains come in so many colors, styles and fabrics your toughest decision will be which ones to buy.  You may find more than one style that will look great in your bedroom.  So, if you do find more than one pair of those curtains and you just can’t decide between the two, get both.  Like the old saying goes, two is better than one.  In this case it most certainly is.  Two different looks are better than the same boring one.  You may want to check out [[[made to measure curtains]]] too.

Bunk Beds For Kids – The Perfect Small Space Solution

Ready to shop? Please visit our category page.

Bunk beds are commonly used in summer camps and other facilities that provide accommodations for several people who are sharing a small space. In the past, bunk beds provided the perfect solution for large families who had four or more children sharing a single bedroom. Even though most people do not have the large families that were common a century ago, many modern day families still have to deal with living in small spaces.

Many older homes, townhouses and condominiums have very small bedrooms, which can make it difficult to design a beautiful room for a child. Families who live in a century home or a city apartment might have to get creative when it comes to designing their child’s bedroom. If two or more children need to share a single bedroom, it can be extremely challenging to find a design that works well to accommodate each child.

If two or three children are sharing a small room, someone should consider bunk beds for kids. Bunk beds will not only free up much needed bedroom space, but they are also a fun piece of furniture that kids will enjoy. Bunk beds are also a great idea for families who have a child who is attending college. If the child is spending most of the year living in the college dorms, their old bedroom can be converted into a home office, workout room or game room. When the child comes home to visit during the summer holidays, they can share the bunk bed with their younger sibling. While they are away at school their brother or sister can enjoy having a bedroom of their own. A futon style bunk bed is a perfect choice in this situation because the bottom bed can be used as either a sofa or a bed while the older sibling is away at school.

Modern day bunk beds come in many different styles. Wood and metal bunk beds are the most popular for children’s bedrooms because of their durability. Some bunk beds have special features such as built in drawers or storage compartments. A bunk bed with integrated storage creates even more space, especially if it eliminates the need for an additional dresser. Bunk beds for kids are available in furniture stores as well as online. Whether someone purchases a bunk bed online or in a local store, they need to be prepared to assemble the bed once it arrives. Bunk bed assembly is not too difficult, but it will likely take two people to assemble the product. Some local companies may offer home assembly services for an additional fee.

Bunk Beds for Kids-5 Frequently Asked Questions

Ready to browse or shop? Please visit our category page.

Buying bunk beds for kids can be a very smart decision. This furniture enables you to conserve space while adding functionality, as it makes use of the vertical space in the room. This is something many people do not do a good job of. Obviously, kids really enjoy them, particularly the one who gets the top bunk. Here are five frequently asked questions about the topic:

#1) How do you save money?

You can always go to the local store, but you are better off looking online. Generally, you will find inexpensive ones on the internet, and check at auction sites like eBay for further discounts. Wholesalers often times market on eBay, and therefore you do not have to go through a third party store. The reason most internet stores are so inexpensive is that they have virtually no overhead expenses to deal with, which is not the case with offline.

#2) Are there different styles?

Yes, there are many theme-based bunk beds to choose from. It is not hard to find one that matches your child’s interest. Common themes are sports, action figures, etc. They might cost a bit more than a generic style, but you can still save money when you buy online.

#3) Are bunk beds dangerous?

Obviously, every parent has nightmares of their child falling off the top. The reality is, some are much more secure than others are. Generally, the best materials for strength are wood and metal. Sure, the plastic ones are less expensive, but they are also far riskier as well.

It should have a good solid wood bar across the top that stops them from falling, should they roll too far when they are sleeping. However, no matter what kind of bed you buy, you want to drill into your kids that they need to be careful. Otherwise, if they are roughhousing, somebody could fall off the top regardless of how sturdy the barrier is. It is not going to be built to the ceiling, after all.

In addition, you might want to think about getting a lower bed, should you have young kids. No matter how sturdy the railing, falling off is always a possibility. Therefore, shorter beds will help remove the risk of serious injury. However, make sure it is not so low that the child on the bottom bangs their head when sitting up.

#4) What is the best material?

As mentioned, wood or metal are the strongest, even though they are not cheap. Wood tends to be longer lasting than metal, and therefore many people prefer it. However, metal is not as expensive. In most cases, it will last your kids until they outgrow the bunk bed, and therefore you do not have to worry about paying to replace it.

#5) What about the size?

This is a critical thing to think about. Get one that is too short, and your child will not be able to stretch out when sleeping. Therefore, ensure that it is long enough.

One way to alleviate this problem is to purchase a futon model, as this enables you to pull it out on the bottom and lengthen it. To get the right size, make sure to take measurements of your room before buying, as this will prevent you from purchasing one that is too large for the area. Returning these beds is definitely a hassle, particularly if you have gotten a good portion of it built.

The bottom line-there are many things to think about when buying bunk beds for kids. Implement these suggestions, and you will find the best one for your child shortly.
